“Among the fundamental tasks of the Christian family is its ecclesistical task: the family is placed at the service of the building up of the Kingdom of God in history by participating in the life and mission of the Church.
In order to understand better the foundations, the contents and the characteristics of this participation we must examine the many profound bonds linking the Church and the Christian family and establishing the family as a “Church in miniature” (Ecclesia domestica) in such a way that in its own way the family is a living image and historical representation of the mystery of the Church.” (Pope John Paul II Apostolic Exhortation: The Role of the Christian Family in the Modern World; #49)

Soon after his conversion, St. Francis of Assisi was told to rebuild the Church. He took this message to mean to rebuild the church of San Damiano, outside of town. But God had actually intended for him to rebuild more than just that little church. When St. Francis began to rebuild San Damiano, it was his first step towards rebuilding the entire Catholic Church as well. It is the same with us. As we strive to build the domestic church within our own homes, we are at the same time strengthening, invigorating and rebuilding the Catholic Church throughout the entire world!
It is our sincere hope that we are able to encourage you as you build your own domestic church and get your entire family excited about the Catholic faith!
